The Resolution of the Council of Ministers no. 45/2015, of 4 July, approved the National Policy on Architecture and Landscape, fulfilling the international commitments assumed by Portugal in the framework of the valorization of architecture, landscape and cultural heritage and aiming to improve the quality and knowledge of the natural and built environment as a strategic factor in promoting well-being and quality of life (of citizens and their participation in public space).

Architecture and Landscape are an expression of the collective identity, history and culture, having a particular impact on education, social inclusion and civic participation. The options taken in this context have major implications for the development of the nation, namely at the levels of social, cultural, economic and environmental sustainability, energy efficiency and the combact against climate change. They thus contribute to creating a more competitive economy and a fairer and more inclusive society with dignity.
